I sketched the original with pencil, which allowed for easy changes, but the final version was drawn with a pair of old Bic pens (not having fancy art supplies, I grabbed what was handy), which gave a sharper look compared with the drawing of Saphira’s eye. In my haste, I made the Beor Mountains many times the size of the Spine, and that got me wondering what would happen if they really were that big. ![]() So I scribbled down some rough shapes for what lay to the east. Sketching in the western half of Alagaësia-for surely that would be sufficient-it soon became clear that I needed. But as Eragon, Brom, and Saphira left Palencar Valley, I found myself getting lost in my own world. When I began writing Eragon, I didn’t intend to draw a map it seemed simple enough to remember all the locations. ![]()
